Those INFO links are done (currently) manually by ops. It might get better (automatic) in the future but currently it is what it is.

The http -> https transition that was done only impacts local URLs, not other domains.

Unfortunately Bimmer is no longer with us.

In the html client, the coordinate formatting can be changed to not include the degree sign through settings.

You might also want to check if client's built-in max calculator in "tools" (misc tab) is what you need. If you feel the calculator is lacking something from "optimal angles" features that would be useful for you, please let me know so I can see what I can do for the built-in tools.

The direct copy to clipboard is not something browsers want to freely allow due to security reasons, thus there is the POI step in between.

While I don't fully follow what you refer with what, the predictor color could be changed through settings. In my own terminology "track" would refer past track and "predictor" refers to predicted future positions.

The problem kind of sounds like you had something to occur for your DC-aware predictor. If it is enabled, COG & TWA predictors are dull colored and only the DC-aware predictor should be the bright one. The DC-aware predictor can visually seem "disappear" e.g. when you add TWA=0 DC (because the boat remains stationary from that point on). It's kind of counterintuitive. ...I can imagine this condition occuring e.g. when nearing PR's finish line. Is it relevant to your case?

A bug in the predictor calculation is of course also possible but without screenshot or some other evidence it's a bit hard to fathom the cause.

Another unintuitive DC-aware predictor trap occurs when one has DCs in future and BBQes. The bright track will keep showing the course after the next DC so there might be no visual change in the bright predictor that would alert to the problem.

Subdomain usage/usecases

Hi all.

Is anyone using the "subdomain" feature such as race1.sailonline.org in different browser tabs/windows? Could you please tell me what's your usecase if you're using them?

I might need to put some restrictions on them in the near future but I'd like to preserve useful use-cases with a set of non-wildcard subdomains, if they're being used by some.

All marks and finish line endpoints are singular coordinates on server side. That is, the server thinks their diameter is zero.

However, I don't believe those "closest" pixels are really necessary in practice anyway as we talk very very small distances per pixel. I'd recommend leaving at least 0.002 degree margin in angle to be on the safe side (it's easy to check that the COG number in the infobox changes when aiming).

The finish line endpoints are not provided by the server currently but they are calculated by the client(s), which is a potential (small) error source on their position. There was an unfortunate incident not so long ago related to it because html5 client finish line code pre-dated my access to server-side formulas. I'd like to change this among many other things eventually such that the finish line coordinates are provided by the server so such errors would no longer be possible.

Occasionally pixel rounding related "jitter" may result in different positioning for the very same line so "crossing" is not even well-defined if only considered what is seen visually for a line.

Hi all,

I've just updated the dev version with lots of changes. It is possible to enable DC-aware predictor already, however, there are a few caveats. The DC-aware predictor does not consider performance losses at turns correctly. Initial performance is consider correctly like previously, however, when firing any DC, the performance gets beamed up to 100% and remains there for the remaining predictor length. In addition, the calculation only runs with 30s accuracy wrt. boat movement.

There is now BBQ warning sound and a few new ruler related buttons that were requested.

Some changes are (should be) user invisible library updates but they might introduce new problems (or bring back vanishing fleet problem which has caused me to hold back one particular library update).

Hi all,

I've now altered the "GO TO RACE" button so that it leads to HTML5 client (and race registration link likewise leads to HTML5 client).

If you still want to access the old flash client, a smaller button above it that used to point to HTML5 client is left for your convinience. However, with the demise of Flash support in Web browsers imminent, I'd strongly recommend contacting me if you have strong reasons why you cannot use HTML5 client but need to keep using Flash client so I can see if I can somehow help the situation.

Melbourne to Osaka Prelude 2024

Welcome once again to what these days is Sailonline’s almost annual virtual Melbourne to Osaka Yacht Race. In real life, this double-handed 5500 nm race between these two sister cities, one deep in the southern hemisphere, the other high in the northern hemisphere, is run every four to five years, and is planned to be held again in 2025, so this race is a Prelude in partnership with the Melbourne Osaka Cup 2025 organising committee collaborating with the Ocean Racing Club of Victoria (ORCV), and the Sandringham (SYC) and Osaka Hokko (OHYC) yacht clubs. On this occasion, we’ll be racing the well-known First 40, a popular size of boat for a long-distance double-handed race. With the doldrums unavoidably lying across the track, you can expect to be at virtual sea for at least a month!
